  • Screenings from the Void

Paris, Texas, 1984 – ★★★½

  • Jim Keel
  • 04/19/2025

Every single frame of this movie could be a painting. Robby Müller’s cinematography is just… unreal. It captures that vast, lonely beauty of the American Southwest in a way that somehow feels both epic and deeply personal. The way the colors hit, the way the characters are placed in the frame, it’s all so intentional without ever feeling showy.

Not what I was expecting. This movie was very good with an excellent score from Trent Reznor.

Sounds of the Void Presents: The Top 50 Metal Albums of 2023

  • Jim Keel
  • 12/15/2023

So, here we are. The end of 2023. This is the second year in a row that I have done a Top 50 as opposed to a Top 10 as I have done in years passed. I even considered not doing a full site blog and just relegating it to an Instagram post, but I want to make sure I am not hindered by the apps character limit and tag limit.…

Sounds of the Void Presents: The Top 25 Dungeon Synth Releases of 2023

  • Jim Keel
  • 12/14/2023

2022 was the year of Dungeon Synth for me. I discovered the genre in 2021 but went far down the rabbit hole in 2022. So much so, that Bandcamp was where I was listening to most of my music. I have amassed over 1,000 Dungeon Synth releases on my Bandcamp page as well.…

Sounds of the Void: April 2023

  • Jim Keel
  • 05/08/2023

Happy May! I can’t believe we are almost halfway through 2023, but here we are. April was heavy, and I mean HEAVY. We’ll get into the best metal had to offer this past month but first I want to talk about a killer Dungeon Synth label in Dark Sorcery Records.…

Sounds of the Void: February 2023

Happy March! We are almost a quarter of the way through 2023, which proves that life is short, and you all should listen to metal. Before we get into the main chunk of the blog, I do want to highlight a few incredible releases from a particular label so far this year.

Sounds of the Void: January 2023

  • Jim Keel
  • 02/02/2023

Usually, January is a throwaway year when it comes to new releases in any genre of music for that matter. I think the sweet spot for releasing new albums are usually see the heavy hitters start releasing during late spring, summer, or early Autumn.…

Sounds of the Void Presents: The Top 25 EPs and Demos of 2022

  • Jim Keel
  • 12/08/2022

EPs and Demos are a criminally overlooked style of release that showcases some incredible works that a band often times uses to kickstart a new sound, a new project, or just is trying to get their name out there. In the early 90s Death Metal underground was ruled by some of the greatest Demos and EPs of all time.…

Sounds of the Void Presents: The Top 25 Dungeon Synth Releases of 2022

  • 12/07/2022

A little bit about me: I love video games. I especially love old RPGs. I’m a fan of whether they be CRPGs, ARPGs, SRPGs, or JRPGs. I especially love old chiptune music, and video game soundtracks. So when I discovered Dungeon Synth music at the tail end of last year, I fell instantly in love.…

Sounds of the Void Presents: November 2022

  • Jim Keel
  • 12/05/2022
At last, we are here! The end of 2022. Actually, we have like 26 days left, but for all intents and purposes, it is the end of the year. And with the end of the year, comes every blogger’s beat of lists… Well, I am going to do the same thing!
